Not all windows are created equal. There are plenty of technologies available to make windows more energy-efficient, more private, or easier to maintain. One of those technologies is the simple – yet complex – concept of double pane windows.
The way these windows work is much like you would expect from the name. There are two layers of glass on these windows, which is a good thing on its’ own – it means double protection from the elements. However, between the two layers of glass is typically a special gas like argon or krypton that functions as an invisible insulator, keeping air in or out, depending on what side of the glass the air is on. In some cases, there may be issues where double pane windows are not operating effectively. In these cases, a home inspection using thermal imaging can help to identify cracks or gaps in the window or sealant.
