A similar idea is used in some homes, but it is not the light that we’re trying to block, but instead the heat. The sun can add quite a bit of heat to a home, increasing the cooling cost for keeping your home at a comfortable level.
What you can do is install a window film. There are 3 different types of window films, permanent, semi-permanent and temporary films. Using a semi-permanent or temporary film gives you the option to remove it when you actually need the sun’s heat, such as in the colder months of the year.
You can buy rolls of window film in most hardware stores, and installation is fairly easy, something that you could do yourself. You should be careful when removing old window film, since improper handling of the window could damage it.
